In a word, Yes. Microsoft stopped all support for Windows 7 in January 2020 and will stop all support for Windows 8 in January 2023. When an operating system is no longer supported it will be susceptible to any new security vulnerabilities going forward.
It's a common misconception that a slow computer means it's time for a new one. The reality is that it may just need a tune-up or a clean wipe and reinstallation of the operating system. I've salvaged many older systems by adding additional memory and upgrading the hard drive to a solid state drive (SSD).
We strongly recommend businesses as well as individuals practice some type of data redundancy. At a minimum, important data should be backed up to an external drive. Businesses should have a local NAS and either offsite or cloud-based backups like Dropbox or OneDrive.
